The Sharing Center of Central Brevard is proud to announce the 8th
Annual Amateur Backyard BBQ Contest. On April 5, 2025, come out to
F. Burton Smith Park, in Cocoa, to sample some of the best local BBQ around.
The event’s proceeds will benefit the Sharing Center’s Children's Weekend Feeding Program, a program designed to empower families with children by providing access to healthy food on the weekends during the school year. Tickets can be purchased at our 2 Thrift Store locations and at local business partners throughout the community After January 1st, 2025. Tickets are also available the day of the event.
The Bag Pack Feeding Program is designed to reduce hunger in our community by filling the nutritional gap by providing food to
children in need while school is out.
The premise for the program is that during the school week, many children receive free/reduced-price breakfast and lunch through the School Breakfast and Lunch Programs. What happens when school lets out? Hunger is one of the most severe roadblocks to the learning process. Lack of nutrition may set up a cycle for poor performance. Hunger also may make children more prone to illness and other health issues. The Bag Pack Program is designed to fill that nutrition gap and make sure children can get the nutritious meals they need during the weekend.
The children who receive the supplemental food are enrolled in the Reduced Lunch Program and will be given an allotment of food each Friday to ensure they have food to eat while at home for the weekend. This will continue for the entire school year.
The date for the BBQ Contest is approaching fast and we’re making preparations. Don’t miss out!
