About our Children's Weekend Feeding Program

About the Bag PackFeeding Program:

The Bag Pack Feeding Program is designed to reduce hunger in our community by filling the nutritional gap by providing food to children in need while school is out. The premise for the program is that during the school day, many children receive free/reduced-price breakfast and lunch through the School Breakfast and Lunch Programs. What happens when school lets out? Hunger is one of the most severe roadblocks to the learning process.

Lack of nutrition may set up a cycle for poor performance. Hunger also may make children more prone to illness and other health issues. The Bag Pack Program is designed to fill that nutrition gap and make sure children can get the nutritious meal they need during the weekend. The children who receive the supplemental food are enrolled in the Free/Reduce Lunch Program and will be given an allotment of food each Friday to ensure they have food to eat while at home for the weekend. This will continue for the entire school year.
